The Glasgow 1990s images, a few of which are above, have mostly never been published nor exhibited until now. The image comes from my own wanderings in the city in the early years of my career, and from some photography assignments from over the years.
The Golden Jubilee images, a selection in carousel below, come from a photography assignment on the weekend of the Golden Jubilee in 2002. I was tasked, by a Sunday supplement magazine, to go out and find any images connected in any way whatsoever to Her Majesty Queen’ Elizabeth II and the Golden Jubilee. I was one of may photographers across the UK given the same brief, but sadly the magazine never ran the images nor the story.
The jubilee images come from a variety of events, from street party in Bridgeton, Glasgow, to a village fete with a young chap dressed as King Henry VIII. There is also one image from a ‘Citizens Not Subjects’ rally which took place that weekend in 2002 on Glasgow Green, with other images coming from the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge, and from Rutherglen.
Both books have been published in collaboration with Café Royal Books, a publishing house based in Southport, UK, founded in 2005 by Craig Atkinson. Café Royal Books release weekly publications, focussing on post-war documentary photography linked to Britain and Ireland.
These are the 8th and 9th books I’ve published in collaboration with Café Royal Books.
