Earlier this week I was on a boat, away out into the North Sea to photograph for a client at the UK’s largest offshore windfarm (I’ll post those images soon). Thankfully the weather was dry, the wind low, and the seas calm, but it made me cast my mind back to an assignment earlier this year when I was commissioned by an international offshore rescue and paramedic client to photograph with some of their personnel at their hub in Aberdeen.
On that assignment I was commissioned to provide some behind the scenes imagery from their offices, of life saving skills and paramedic refresher training, and some portraits of their personnel who swing into action when emergencies strike on oil platforms, on ships at sea, and in hazardous environments around the world.
I’m thankful to never have need such rescue or personnel to come and tend to me on my sea-based photography assignments, or trips abroad, but none the less always good to know of such companies and facilities.
With this particular assignment in Aberdeen we photographed in offices, and then up on a cliff top, towards the end of the day with the last of the light breaking through. With a great team beside me, of Pam Nolan of Global Assignments.Agency, and photo assistant Lawrence, we worked fast in the late afternoon light, to shoot imagery the client could use across websites and printed materials. An interesting photo assignment, and reassuring to know the client exists.
